Lyerla from Hillsboro on the verge of Big Time
I am not going to cover too much on Colt Lyerla in this article but safe to say you want to be aware of this very talented 10th grader. He is a high school Junior to be in a D1 athletes body. Watch this film form 2008. he was 6'4" and 210 and is now 6'5" and 228. He has a 6'7" arm span and jumps and runs very well. Have a look!

Myles Wade is Back with a Vengeance!!
Remember this guy?? This is a work out of 6'2.5", 318 pound, Myles Wade of Portland, Oregon at a work out he was getting in at Cross Fit Hel Gym in Portland. Myles is Rated #2 at the DT position for Junior College football in 2008 and he is in the FAB 50 Juco Rating. Myles will have his 2 year Associates Degree and have 3 years of eligibility left upon graduating in 2009.

8th grader Koehler gets a D1 Offer and never plays a down!!
This from Doris Sullivan: Reeve Koehler, Kailua Intermediate School 8th grader, brother of Solomon Koehler from the University of Arizona, has been offered a football scholarship by Coach Greg McMackin at the University of Hawaii. Reeve is 6-2, 265 at 13 years old.Reeve has never played organized football due to weight limits in the Pop Warner league. His football experience has so far been limited to the Brian Derby Clinics for 3 years, competed at the PIAA football combine and the University of Hawaii Clinics.

Dear Line of Scrimmage Camper,
As you progress up the competitive ladder, it is essential that you continue to develop, improve, and enhance your skills and abilities to maximize your potential. As you know, we work very hard at our camp to provide you with an excellent opportunity to take your total game to another level. We hope you are planning to be with us again this summer. Dates for this year's LOS Camp are set for July 15-17, 2008.
We are putting together an intensive three days of instruction, progressive drills, and competition. Our camp will allow you to continue to increase your individual skills and incorporate those abilities into the total team game. Our offensive and defensive drill work will give you a wide array of knowledge and skills, which will allow you to put yourself in the best possible position for success in the future.
Camp will be held again at Western Oregon University. Like last year, you can come in as a commuter camper. We will also have housing available this year if you want to be a residential camper. The cost for the residential camper is $260 (includes registration, room and board, a camp jersey and a t-shirt) and $200 for the commuter camper (includes registration, lunches and dinners, a camp jersey and a t-shirt).
Our facilities and field space (two full practice fields and one game field) along with dorms, food service and mid-sized college campus atmosphere provide an outstanding camp environment. The opportunity to work on your skills will be most beneficial for you. We have again assembled a sensational staff that is dedicated to making this a most enjoyable and worthwhile experience for you. Because we have college coaches coming in from throughout the Northwest and around the country, you will also have an opportunity to be evaluated for the next level.
Remember that this camp is for the eager, committed, and determined offensive and / or defensive lineman. Again, we hope you will seriously consider coming back to our camp this summer. Charles Siddoway is for Real Folks...
I covered two great events this past weekend here in Oregon. First stop was the 2008 SPARQ Football Combine Testing that was held at Hillsboro Stadium About 600 athletes came from all over the Pacific Northwest and US to get tested. There were definitely some highlights and this young man from Marist High School in Eugene, Charles Siddoway, ripped off a 93.65 SPARQ Rating. The young fellah is 6'6" and 318 pounds. Charles is sitting on 6 offers from Pac 10 schools and Boise State. He came and humbly proved that he can move and can jump and turn up a big time score like this one. I am and have been consistently impressed with Charles both as an athlete and as a young man. Calm, collected, humble, quiet....he goes about his business and that is it!
Great Job Charles and that is a very good score as well.

Jeff and Paul Durham Leave Oregon / Hawaii better places!
Coach Jeff Durham, who coached at Forest Grove High School in the 60', 70's and 80's, and took the Vikings to the state Championship against Sunset in 1976, died today after a long illness. Jeff, whose father, Paul, was a longtime coach and athletic director at Linfield College and later AD at Hawaii, was a fixture in Oregon high school football. He also taught history at Forest Grove High School, was the AD at both Forest Grove and McMinnville High Schools. He will be missed.
His Father Paul Durham was a class guy too. My dad played aginst him back in the 1950's and said Paul would always find him after the game and congratulate and coach him up a bit. I know that Jeff was a super class guy. These men is are the type of people / coaches we should all aspire to be.
Here is an excerpt on Paul who died recently in Hawaii. He left his Mark on the world and in the end that is all we can strive for.
"Paul Durham, Linfield College, University of Hawaii
Before becoming the director of athletics at the University of Hawaii, Paul Durham coached and served as the director of athletics at his alma mater, Linfield College. He was one of the founding fathers of the college's athletics program. As Linfield's football coach for 20 years, he guided the Wildcats to six conference titles, two NAIA championship games and posted a record of 122-51-10. He is ranked second on the college's all-time list for victories. Durham's 1961 team, which was the first undefeated team in college history, was inducted into the Linfield College Hall of Fame in 2005. At one point, Durham was the director of athletics, football coach, a faculty member and sports editor of the News-Register. In the summer, he ran the city recreation program, taught summer school and coached softball. Durham moved to the University of Hawaii in 1968 as the university's first AD. He grew the university's athletics from a club program to the threshold of Division I and played a major role in moving the Rainbows into the Western Athletic Conference. Although he retired from the athletics department in 1975, Durham continued to teach classes in the College of Education until 1981. He was inducted into Hawaii's Circle of Honors in 1997 and into Linfield's Sports Hall of Fame in its inaugural year. The foyer into Linfield's athletics complex bears his name. In 1962, he earned the NAIA Coach of the Year and Oregon Man of the Year awards. He was also inducted into the Los Angeles Football College Hall of Fame in 1975. Durham graduated from Linfield College in 1936 and is one of the few student-athletes in college history to earn 10 or more varsity letters"
Paul was inducted to the The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.
Here is to Paul and Jeff Durham who left a huge impression on the thousands of people they helped and represented Oregon in a way few have ever done.

Zach Kaahanui Ready For the Big Show
For three seasons Zach Kaahanui has worked the trenches for the Central Catholic Rams. He has come up through the system there with Oregon prep standouts Myles Wade, Kevin Frahm, Demetrius Guice, and Nick Green amongst others. All the while, few people realized that he was a very young talented lineman on the rise. His sophomore year he was flanked by Wade and Frahm and yet stood out for his super fast get off and his unique and brutal hand fighting techniques. For this linemen technique is his main weapon.
For those of us that have watched we have seen a powerful kid taking on double team and cut blocks on every down. We have watched a kid that has recorded sacks, fumble recoveries, and run stuffing blows in a 3-yard battle zone known as the interior line. But as the 2008 season is on the horizon we can see this linemen being in the top of his class. Zach Kaahanui has it down and this year is his time.
Kaahanui is coming off a superb season where as a junior he was named to the First Team Offense and the First Team Defense in the Mt. Hood Conference of the 6A Oregon football division. At 6-foot and 250-pounds, Zach is a formidable foe. Coaches from Hawaii to Utah have been impressed with him. In one-on-one camp competition, he has proved himself time and again and he can run with the biggest and the best. Looking back to last year Zach had a few thoughts.
"We started the season great and then lost a big one to Jesuit -that hurt our pride and people counted us out!" said Kaahanui. "But the highlight of the season was bouncing back and beating Southridge at home in the Playoffs. That was huge. We jumped on them early and they never knew what hit them. That was a quality game for us and me too!"
And well he should. Kaahanui recorded sacks, tackles, and fumble recoveries in that game and had a lot to do with that win.
Looking ahead Zach is hitting the weight room and conditioning 6 days a week. He credits Justin Scott for helping him to become stronger and faster. He notes his top skills as his footwork, ability to communicate with his teammates during the game, and his motor. He plays every position along the line and projects well into the collegiate ranks as a nose guard, center, or offensive guard. And collegiate play runs his in Hawaiian heritage as his father "Toots" Kaahanui played at Boise State and cousins Dominic and Donavan Raiola played at Nebraska and Wisconsin, winning All-American honors and the Outland Trophy along the way. Both went on to the NFL.
Zach is being actively contacted by Weber State, Arizona, Southern Utah, San Diego State, and Hawaii. He is also hearing from Portland State, Boise State, Oregon State and Oregon. He is an academic qualifier and appears to be on his way to the collegiate ranks. There are some outstanding linemen in Oregon this year and Kaahanui is in the top three or four in that group. Pound for pound and form an ability standpoint I have him as my #1. He should be once again a force in the 6A ranks and would project to be one of a growing line of outstanding Oregon linemen to go on to the collegiate ranks!

This was a fun game. Here the Grant Generals make a great special teams play to get the ball back as they made a comeback in this 1/4 final Game at PGE Park against Sheldon. Sheldon went on to win but this was a really fun game to be a part of and we were privileged to be there! Greta Job Guys!
